In the process of powder mixing, the application of powder is involved, and the characteristics of powder determine the difficulty of mixing, which is also a problem that needs to be considered in the selection of mixing equipment.
In powder mixing applications, powders with good flowability tend to separate. There are three reasons for separation:
1. When the material falls onto a pile, larger particles may fall under the pile due to greater inertia, and smaller particles with less inertia may be embedded in cracks on the pile.
2. When the material is vibrated, smaller particles tend to move to the bottom, while larger particles tend to move to the top.
3. When the mixture is blown or fluidized, separation occurs correspondingly with different particle sizes and densities.
To avoid separation during the mixing process of powder mixing equipment, the following methods are often adopted:
1. Strive to have similar particle sizes of the mixture components, or use the method of adding liquid to avoid separation.
2. Master the mixing time and avoid over mixing. It is generally believed that the material should be unloaded before approaching uniform mixing and mixed during transportation or transit.
3. Reduce the loading and unloading work after mixing. The less material falls, rolls, or slides, the better. The storage bin after mixing should be as small as possible, and the transportation equipment after mixing should be belt conveyors as much as possible, without screw conveyors, bucket elevators, and pneumatic conveying devices as much as possible.
4. The mixing equipment is grounded and antistatic agent is added into the feed to reduce the mixture separation due to the adsorption of static electricity.
